Chicxulub, Yucatán: where the Dinos live
Dony and the Dinos live in Chicxulub, a real place on the coast of Yucatán, Mexico. That's where the asteroid hit that changed the story of the dinosaurs.

- Where
- Northern coast of Yucatán, Mexico
- When
- About 66 million years ago
- What happened
- An asteroid about 10 km wide hit the Earth
- The crater
- About 180 km across, now buried under the peninsula
How to explain it to a four-year-old
“A long, long, long time ago, a giant rock fell from the sky in Yucatán. BOOM! After that, the big dinosaurs never came back. But guess what? Birds are their grandchildren: dinosaurs are still here, flying around.”
And in the songs?
In Moni the Fly, Mateo the Meteor lands with a cartoon BOOM!... and everyone comes out of the crater to dance. In Dony and the Dinos nobody gets scared: Mateo wants to dance too.

Fun fact for parentsYucatán's ring of cenotes follows the edge of the Chicxulub crater. If you've ever swum in a cenote on that ring, you were at the edge of dinosaur history.
